Dietary
Ayurveda defines each food substance, each spice and each medical herb, as having a specific taste. They are six tastes, which are sweet, salty, sour, pungent, bitter and astringent. Each taste is combined with two elements, and therefore each taste has properties that affect the body and mind.
Ayurveda uses the six tastes to perform therapeutic actions on the three doshas, such as raising, lowing and balancing them.
Ayurvedic dietary is not only based on balancing doshas, but also on strengthening our digestive fire. If we cannot properly digest the food we take in, we will experience bloating, gas, nausea and acidity, ect. Therefore, Ayurveda suggests that we should follow the diet, which is best according to our natural constitution.
